Recording of Walter Isard talking to Luc on Saturday, Nov. 18 at the Italian restaurant in Toronto:

[walter] I was indeed delighted when Luc came to Cornell to study with me and at that time we were ... I was much engaged in pure theory, right, and I thought, boy, this is going to be a great chance to work on [noise] and get something done that nobody else has done. And he also started working on Alonso's models; we were going to outdo Alonso :-)

[walter] But you know, Luc is an independent thinker - VERY independent! Yeah. And so one day he said .. came to me -I was writing- "I'm not going to do any more theory with you, I'm going to do econometrics!" And of course, that decision he made was the proper one, and I congratulate you.
