Congrats Luc

This award is a fitting tribute to a person who has not only made tremendous contributions to the field of regional science, but has touched the lives of many friends and scholars along the way. I feel incredibly lucky to be one of those people and cannot begin to thank you enough for all that you have done for me since we first met in Santa Barbara back in 1985.

Since I have had the good fortune to known you over this period, maybe it would be a good idea (TM) to let the rest of the world in on some of the lesser-known aspects of your research agenda?

While Luc's impacts on the methods of spatial econometrics, exploratory spatial data analysis and regional science are the stuff of legend, what has gone largely unnoticed is the fact that he also is committed to urban geographic field work. And this is not your garden varieity form of field work. No sir. Here is just a small sample from Luc's field campaigns:

An ethnographic inquiry on public transportation utilization by the poor.

A comparative analysis of beer cart location strategies on Japanese bullet trains.

Application of ESDA methods to games of chance.

Unfortunately, field work photos from the project "The spatial distribution of Belgian pubs: A global analysis" are too blurry to post.
